Chan/Goh is back! Team Malaysia had a good start for new season

2018 BWF World Tour started from the first tournament Thailand Masters. It was the first reunion for Malaysian Rio Olympics silver medalists Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying and Tan Wee Kiong/Goh V Shem.

Malaysian well-liked mixed doubles Chan/Goh showed a remarkable comeback to earn the title at Thailand Masters. They hadn’t played as a pair for 9 months since Goh went through a shoulder surgery. However, the former world No.3 pair showed their ability and experience to beat Thailand Dechapol Puavaranukroh/ Puttita Supajirakul in finals. Chan/Goh earned 6 consecutive points in game 3, and finally locked the crown.

Malaysian youngster Leong Jun Hao made it all the way to the final, where he lost to Indonesia’s Tommy Sugiarto 16-21,15-21. Even though 18-year-old Leong did not make it to the top of the podium, he did make a great entrance to the senior stage, setting his mark that he is worth keeping an eye on for the future.

Men’s doubles former world No.1 Tan Wee Kiong/Goh V Shem was split after World Championships last year, but they were paired up again to start the season. The Rio Olympics silver medalists reached semi-finals in their first reunion.

 

Team Malaysian will return to their home for Malaysia Masters this week. Queen Tai Tzu Ying and all the VICTOR stars will all head for Kuala Lumpur to start their new season.
