2014 Denmark Superseries Premier | October 14-19 | Odense, Denmark
Final day notes & results
China completes clean sweep.
Son equals season best, eyeing Superseries Finals ticket. Here’s the final results:
"Victory Number": 5
As of this week, World No.1s
Lee Yong Dae and
Yoo Yeon Seong have made it to the finals in all five events since
Lee’s first comeback tournament in Tokyo, including the historic wins at the Japan Open, Indonesia Open, and Australian Open all in June.
Player of the week
Inspired play from former No.1 women’s doubles team Yu Yang/Wang Xiaoli secured them a second Superseries Premier victory of the year after the All England win. The dominant partnership beat the steady Japanese duo of Misaki Matsutomo/Ayaka Takahashi, 21-14 21-14.
Battle of the week
Winning the gold at last month’s Asian Games, Lin Dan, had to tough out the first-round match against an in-form Taiwanese No.1
Chou Tien Chen, who’s at his career high of No.12 in the rankings.
Chou, at one point scoring 10 points in a row in the second game, finally surrendered by the scores of 22-20 10-21 21-18.
VICTOR STAR of the week: Son Wan Ho
Korean No.1
Son Wan Ho had to play against World Champion Chen Long for the third time in a mere four weeks, in the finals of Denmark Open, after their rivalry at the Asian Games team and individual events in which each had came out victorious. This time,
Son set himself up 17-15 in the first game and 20-17 in the second only to see Chen crawl back each time with some risky play to finally wrap up with a 21-19 24-22 win. However,
Son felt satisfied with his improvement and was already setting his sights on the year-end finals with just three Superseries events left of this season.
