China and Korea players stride forward impressively
 
The last 16 stage of the Badminton Asia Championship 2013 was held yesterday (April 18). Of the players and pairs making it through to the quarter-final stage, 13 are from China, six from the Korea .

The Korea’s top men’s doubles pair, Ko Sung Hyun/Lee Yong Dae, strolled past their Hong Kong opponents 21-10,21-11 and will face Kamura Takeshi/ Keigo Sonoda of Japan in the quarter-finals. Another fancied ROK pair, Kim Ki Jung/Kim Sa Rang disposed of Chen Hung Lin/ Lu Chia Bin of Chinese Taipei 21-13,23-25,21-11.
 
The up and coming Korea pair Lee So Hee/ /Shin Seung Chan beat China’s rated pair Jiang Kai Xin/Cai Pei Long and will face current world No. 1 pair China’s Yu Yang/Wang Xiao Li in the next round.
 
In the men’s singles discipline, China showed strength that no other country can match. Lin Dan, Chen Long, Wang Zheng Ming, Du Peng Yu and Gao Huan  all made it through to the last 16, meaning that China’s players have five of the eight quarter-final places. If they keep up their good form they have a chance of filling all four semifinal berths.

The hoist country players successively fall at the hands of formidable oppositition at the last 16 stage, with the only one reaching the quarter finals Tai Tzu Ying in the women’s singles. Facing China’s Han Li, Tai showed determination and toughness. After losing the first game, she fought back and dominated her opponent in the next two games to take the match  19-21,21-12,21-10.Tai will face London Olympics silver medalist Wang Yi Han of China in the quarter-finals. The two have played each other twice before and both claimed victory once so their match should be a close fought and exciting one.
